I had a wonderful time teaching a day’s shibori workshop at Handprinted in May. Lovely to see familiar faces and to welcome new ones. Everyone embracing the spirit of experimentation with exciting and gorgeous results.

Another positive venture was my first school workshop at Claremont Fan Court School. Working with a charming group of A-Level students, we used mark making and heat transfer techniques to build up layers of colour, shape and pattern to consider composition. These techniques really helped to free the students up and hopefully gave them building blocks upon which to develop their individual projects.

I was also privileged to spend 3 fabulous studio days with the wonderful artist Carole Waller. Such a patient, generous and knowledgable tutor, she really helped untangle my creative block and re-ignite my creative enthusiasm. I left fizzing with ideas and good foundations from which to continue my creative development.

As a result of this valuable retreat, I hope to show some new paper pieces at Open Studios and am considering an exhibition in September.

August brings Hampshire Open Studios and I will be exhibiting at two places this year; Making Space on 17 and 18 August and at Tanglewood, Curdridge with a group of artists including ceramics, textiles, illustration and mixed media art, open from 17th to 26 August. I will be at New Brewery Arts 21 & 22 September for a 2-day workshop focussed on screen printing on textiles, exploring colour, pattern and texture. Then returning again on 19 October for a 1-day Making your Mark workshop. A great opportunity to get creative with mark, colour, collage and stitch.

And finally West Dean College from 3 November for a 3-day textile screen printing workshop… Phew! I can’t wait!
